FAQ

Should I bring a car?

Unless you’re renting a place far from town, you don’t really need a car. Most of the hotels, inns and B&Bs are right in town, walking distance to Summer Hill, the beach, shops, and restaurants. Also, there is no extra parking at Summer Hill, where the main event is happening.

For exploring, we recommend bikes over mopeds. No ubers, but taxis are a great optionβ€”and an island tour is a great way to see the highlights. If you’re renting a place a little farther out, you’ll need to make a ferry reservation as soon as you know your plans. See the travel info for the link to the ferry. But be warned, reservations can be hard to get on weekends.

What’s the weather like?

October on Block Island can be amazingly gorgeous, and of course we’re hoping for what we all call β€œSecond Summer.” The ocean temps are still warm, so if the air is warm too, you can plan to swim! That said, it can also be chilly, rainy and damp. Bring layers, and check the weather before you come.

Are babysitting services available?

If you’re bringing young children with you, we can hook you up with reliable babysitters on the island so you can enjoy the party.

What should I wear?

Festive cocktail or semiformal attire, please. Dress to dance!

Are you registered anywhere?

No. We’ve been living, together and separately, for a while and we have a lot of stuff.

We won’t say no to gifts from the heart or stuff we can consumeβ€”a bottle of wine! Cheese of the month! Restaurant gift certificates! But we also invite you to donate to some of our favorite local charities: The Mary D. Fund, the Block Island Conservancy, or the Block Island Maritime Institute.
